CMU interested in Mumford OT Brown
There are not many prospects bigger than Detroit Mumford lineman, Daron Brown. Standing at 6-foot-5 and weighing 312 pounds, the offensive tackle has already picked up five offers, which are from Akron, Alabama State, Buffalo, Western Michigan and Northern Illinois. The All-State offensive tackle is also hearing from Central Michigan, Toledo, Ball State, Bowling Green, Cincinnati, Eastern Michigan, Miami (Ohio), Wisconsin, Michigan and Michigan State.
"They [CMU] showed me interest early. I decided not go to their latest camp because they told me they only had one spot left. It wouldn't have been convenient and the coaches said I would have had to have a perfect camp, so I decided not to go".
Brown said that if the Chippewas offered, he would absolutely consider it. He wants to go to a school were he feels comfortable around the coaching staff. The Detroit native has visited Mount Pleasant before.
"I attended Central's Junior Day back in January. I really liked the way the coaching staff treated me and I got along with well my recruiting coach, Coach Reynolds, and the offensive line coach."
Brown also has a connection with current Chippewa commit, Jabari Dean of Detroit Renaissance. Mumford will play Dean and rival Detroit Renaissance in their Detroit Public opener next week. The Mumford senior laughed as he explained their relationship.
"We go against each other all the time. We are like friends, but more rivals at this point though."
Even with a coaching change this year at Detroit Mumford, Brown, who is a two year captain, still has high expectations for his senior season.
"I expect a city championship and a state championship, nothing less. My personal goal during my senior year is to be the best leader possible."
Brown believes that his greatest strengths are being very coachable and his ability to bring leadership skills to any team. He said that he needs to improve on staying low on his blocks before he reaches the next level.
Brown does not have a timetable to commit right now.
"No timetable. You never know, I might commit next week or I might wait until January. Whenever an offer comes up that I like, then I will probably commit."
Brown and the Mustangs open up their season this week against Marquette.
