Smith shined as a junior

Douglas County lineman Jamin Smith may have been overshadowed by seniors but he played his way into all conference honors. That ability was also certainly helped the Huskies taking a step forward in 2012 on their way to a playoff berth.

"It was pretty good but I wish we could have made it farther in the playoffs. It was nice to make the playoffs after such a bad season last year."

Smith is doing what he can to help Douglas County have success on the wrestling mats this winter.

"It has been going pretty good. We have a pretty good record so far this year."

There is one major goal that Smith hopes to accomplish before the end of the season.

"My goals for wrestling are to make it to state. That is what I'm focused on right now."

Smith will also be using his off-season to make strides as a football player and knows what he wants to do.

"I'm trying to work on my footwork and developing more muscle. I also want to continue to improve my knowledge of the game."

College coaches have taken early notice of Smith and his skills.

"I've gotten a bunch of letters from different places. I've talked to coaches at CSU and Wyoming. There have also been a bunch of letters."

Smith has had a chance to see another program up close during the fall.

"I've been up to CSU to see a few games. The coaches there were really nice. It was cool to see everything up there."

There is at least one more school that Smith wants to visit soon.

"I don't have anything planned but a coach at Wyoming invited me to their junior day. That is about it."

Smith has kept a close eye on one program down south.

"I've always been a big TCU fan. I like the coaching staff and how they have an awesome football program."
