Sam Jones Update
Christian James
GoWyoGo.com ThunderRidge offensive lineman Sam Jones is one of the few in-state juniors who hold a Division I scholarship. Since Colorado State stepped up with an offer, this all stater has seen his recruiting attention continue to grow.
"Yeah it has. I have heard from Wyoming and CU now that CSU has offered."
The Rams made sure to let Jones know what they thought about him during their December junior day.
"McElwain and a couple of other coaches took me into a side room at the stadium. They sat down and told me they were offering me."
Jones loved hearing the great news overall.
"It was really exciting. I was pretty relieved because that is the first offer so it gets the monkey off your back."
The Rams are not the only school in the picture for Jones.
"CSU has offered and I've been in contact with CU as well. They are really interested. Oregon is really interested as well."
Jones has seen his interest from the University of Colorado grow recently.
"I hadn't heard anything from their previous staff but the not apparently the head coach has seen my film and they like it. He is going to come down pretty soon."
A final decision is something that Jones is hoping for before his senior year kicks off.
"I don't have a time frame right now at all. I would like to get committed before the start of next season probably."
Jones has used this winter to stay busy making strides as an athlete.
"The off-season workouts are going really good. I've been working out with Matt McChesney and have been lifting with the team at school as well."
There are two areas of his game that Jones wants to be better at overall.
"For me, it is probably my foot speed and just quickness all around."
