Oregon - UVa has recruiting implications
Traveling to Virginia for a nationally televised game on ABC/ESPN is a great recruiting tool.
It exposes the Ducks, their exciting offense and appealing style in new markets. There's a ton of top football talent in Virginia and neighboring North Carolina.
Already the host Cavaliers have verbal commitments from two 5-star players, 6-2, 206-lb. defensive back Quin Blanding and 6-3, 298-lb. defensive tackle Andrew Brown. Getting top of mind awareness with players like these is a big residual benefit of playing games in other time zones. Remember the trip to The Big House in 2007? Dennis Dixon's fake Statue of Liberty play signaled to the nation that the Ducks were for real, nationally relevant and fun to watch. There's no telling how many future Pharoah Browns or Dior Mathises will be watching Saturday when Marcus Mariota takes a zone-read to the house in Charlottesville. For a trip like this to work as a recruiting tool, though, the Ducks have to take care of their business, win on the road and win with style.
