Offers should be coming for Oak Creek TE

Jordan Veloz had not received any offers as of Monday, but several Division 1 programs are scheduled to check out the all-District 19 tight end prospect from Oak Creek (Wis.) High School.

Knights' Coach Mike Bartholomew said that Minnesota, Wyoming and Army are among those pursuing Veloz's services and were expected to visit this week.

The class of 2013 tight end already has received a good deal of interest from Big Ten schools Wisconsin, Iowa and Michigan; mid-major programs Ball State, Northern Illinois and Florida International; and NCAA Football Championship Subdivision teams Dartmouth, North Dakota, North Dakota State, Northern Iowa, South Dakota State, Illinois State and Southern Illinois.

"I'm kind of surprised that Jordan hasn't received an offer yet," Bartholomew said of the 6-foot-2-inch, 250-pounder. "Maybe some schools think he's a little short for a tight end, and maybe others are waiting to see how he does at camps this summer. I know that Northern Illinois likes him a lot, and so does North Dakota State. I know he's on a lot of teams' radar."

That's because of his versatility
and athletic ability, even though his 20 receptions last year in a run-first offense aren't indicative of his potential as a weapon.

Veloz has visited the Badgers and attended NIU's junior day and spring game this past Saturday. However, he's not taking anything for granted, something he learned from his older brother Kyle, who'll be a redshirt freshman defensive back at St. Cloud State next fall.

"Kyle told me that it's a slow process, so you always have to be paying attention," Veloz said. "He told me that I have to keep looking for what I want in a program."

To that end, Veloz has lined up a hectic June. He will be a personal tight end at a 5-Star Quarterback camp at DeForest High School on June 9. Then he will attend a showcase camp at Northern Illinois on June 10, followed by a camp at Minnesota on June 17. He also said he may attend a camp at Tennessee sometime this summer.
