Houston-area DT close to offers

Katy (Texas) Cinco Ranch held on for a tough 38-35 win over League City (Texas) Clear Springs on Saturday night, despite missing their quarterback as well as their leading rusher in sophomore Jamel James. The Cougars allowed a score on special teams and were hit with a few big plays, but the defense held on.

One of the newest members of that defense is lineman Stuart Mouchantaf, who moved to Cinco Ranch from nearby Morton Ranch this offseason. The 6-foot-4, 280-pound senior anchors the middle for the Cougars and a few colleges could be close to extended offers to the big man.

"I have to take my SAT on Oct. 9," Mouchantaf said. "This will be the first time; I've never taken it before. After I take it, a few schools have said they're going to offer. My grades are fine but they just want to make sure everything is okay with my academics."

A couple of Big 12 programs have been keeping a close eye on Mouchantaf.
