Crockett WR Monroe hoping for CMU offer

Detroit Crockett wide receiver Tyree Monroe is an elite prospect that plays on a very talented high school team along with several other FBS prospects, including David Blackburn and James White. Monroe says that it is a great situation for him to be in because it forces him to work harder.

"It's tough on whoever we go against. They work hard and they bring the hard work out in me. James White has a work ethic like no other. They make me work harder and it's great playing with them."

Monroe picked up an offer from the Toledo Rockets about a month ago and he has interest from several other schools, including Michigan, Iowa, Central Michigan, Wisconsin, Akron and a few other MAC schools.

The Chippewas have been interested in the Detroit native for quite some time, but they have yet to extend him an offer

"The coaches have been pretty good with me. I thought I was going to get an offer a while back, but I haven't gotten it yet. They've kept in contact with me and it's a good relationship. If they were to offer me, some big things could happen."

The CMU coaching staff has kept in contact with Monroe for quite some time now, but he has not been able to talk to them or a lot of other coaches recently because he has been on the camp circuit.

"I haven't talked to the (CMU) coaches in a couple of weeks. I've been camping a lot the last three weeks, so I haven't been able to talk to as many coaches as I've wanted to. But before that, I was talking to them to every week.

Monroe is looking for a school where he can get his degree and where he can find a good amount of playing time. He is somewhat open-minded, but he does have a top five list of schools that he is interested in.

1. Michigan
2. Michigan State
3. Central Michigan
4. Northwestern
5. Iowa

There are a few specific qualities that the Crockett senior is looking for in a football program and in a school.

"The first thing is the academics. My grades are kind of good (3.3). I want to make sure that wherever I go, academics are pretty good. After that, I would say the relationship with the coaches and the players is important. After that, how far it is. But I'm going to be working hard wherever I go."

Most schools have been looking at Monroe as a defensive back. However, the Chippewas have been recruiting him as a wide receiver, more specifically as a slot receiver.

The Detroit native has already visited Toledo, Iowa, Michigan and Michigan State. He said that he has been to Central Michigan a few times, but has not been able to look at all parts of the school.

Monroe went to camp at Notre Dame on June 29, but he does not have a lot of other visits or camps in his immediate future as he looks to let his body recover a little bit. As far as when he would like to commit to a program, he would like to be committed by the third game of his senior season.

I don't really have a set timeline, but since my quarterback (Blackburn) just committed, I would like to try to commit before the season starts. If not by then, then definitely by the third game of the season, I will have decided where I'm going to go."
