Two of the most important things in the world of recruiting are hard work and timing.
Every school can scout every player, but if that school can see that the player isn't a hard worker or they see the player on a bad day, all could be lost.
Westminster defensive lineman Sam Jowers knows all about both, and it is those two things that have allowed him to an emerging name in the world of recruiting.
"Sam has 18 offers right now from the Ivy League schools and some other schools," said Sam's father, Jay Jowers. "He is also getting a lot of attention from Georgia and North Carolina."
The attention is well deserved.
Jowers is a hard worker both in the classroom and on the football field, and a certain Georgia coach has been impressed with the Peach State prospect every time they have crossed paths.
"Coach Rodney Garner was in our home for two hours the other day, and he let us know exactly why they want Sam," said Jay Jowers. " He told us that Sam has impressed him at every camp. He has worked hard and has showed him that he has what it takes."
There is some debate about what position the Westminster lineman may play at the next level, but Garner let the Jowers family know exactly how UGA plans on using him.
"Coach Garner told us that he sees Sam as a defensive end in his defense," said Jay Jowers. "He told us that he likes Sam's athleticism, and he wants him to play defensive line for Georgia."
Jowers has Georgia and Georgetown on top, and although he has yet to receive a scholarship offer, his family is optimistic about his future.
"Whether or not he gets a scholarship to Georgia or anywhere is not a big concern for us," said his father. "We want him to be in the right situation with great academics. Coach Garner looked right us and told us that he is in our living room because he expects Sam to come in and play for him and contribute. Coach Garner believes in him."
Although his future is uncertain, Jowers expects to have most of the puzzle solved by the end of this weekend.
"We have the itinerary now and we will see Coach Mark Richt on Sunday morning," said Jay Jowers. "Once we are finished with that visit, we will just sit down and figure out what is the best fit for Sam."
