Marve gets the call
After evaluating a number of quarterbacks in May and during this week's camps, Alabama head coach Mike Shula has apparently moved one signal caller to the top of his list.
After receiving a visit from Shula during the spring evaluation period, Robert Marve of Plant High School in Tampa, Fla., recently traveled to Tuscaloosa, where he competed against several other quarterbacks for a Crimson Tide offer.
And after a strong showing, Marve, 6-foot-1, 189 pounds, received some good news from the Tide.
"I got an offer from Alabama (Thursday) afternoon around 5:30 and it was pretty exciting," said Marve, who passed for 1,813 yards and 14 touchdowns and rushed for 393 yards and three scores as a junior. "My mom was dropping me and my coach (Robert Weiner) off at the airport and (UA assistant) Coach (Dave) Unger called my coach and told him they were offering. Coach Ungerer asked how would I feel about being the next Alabama quarterback."
