Horns back on top for Shepard

With the Texas Longhorns having nearly filled up their recruiting haul for the 2007 class, much of the burnt orange fan base has already begun looking at some of the top sophomores in the state and wondering which guys could eventually wind up wearing burnt orange and white. It turns out, they're not the only ones.

The Longhorn coaches have also accelerated their prospect scouting, and they hosted one of the state's top 2009 prospects at their practice on Monday.

Dual-threat quarterback Russell Shepard, regarded by many to be a sure-fire top national prospect in 2009, took in Texas' spring practice and he gave the entire visit high marks. While in Austin, the Houston Cypress Ridge playmaker got a chance to pick the brains of the current Longhorn quarterbacks and he also met each and every coach on the Texas staff, including Mack Brown.
