Five-star corner checks out Auburn

The state of Alabama has produced some of the nation's most highly ranked prep prospects over the last few years and that will be the case again in the class of 2009.

When released the first complete Rivals100 for 2009, Gadsden City (Ala.) cornerback Dre Kirkpatrick was ranked a five-star and the nation's No. 5 overall prospect.

Kirkpatrick said he was surprised and excited when the rankings came out.

"I found out I was Top 10 in the nation," said Kirkpatrick. "It means a lot where I come from. Everybody calls me five-star now.

"There are a lot of eyes on me now and I have to lead by example."

The 6-foot-2, 180-pound Kirkpatrick already has the offers to back up his ranking. He's received over 20 written offers since Sept. 1 including Auburn, Alabama, Florida, LSU, Georgia, Tennessee, Florida State, Miami, USC, Louisville, West Virginia and many more.

"All those offers just make me want to work harder to stay on top," said Kirkpatrick. "Everything is just wide open. I'm just going to keep my eyes open and go to a lot of camps next year."

Kirkpatrick and his teammates, 2008 linebacker Jerrell Harris and 2009 wide receiver Kendall Kelly, where recently in Auburn to check out the Tigers' sixth-straight Iron Bowl win over Alabama.
