Farmer earns attention
Brandon Farmer entered the summer seeking to grab the attention of Division I programs. So far, so good for the 6-foot-3 and 290-pound Farmer.Harrison Central (Miss.) offensive lineman
After turning a few heads at Southern Miss' camp last week, Farmer was at it again during Mississippi State's camp on Tuesday.
"It was a good camp and I got in a lot of work with all the different practice drills we did," said Farmer. "I really liked the 1-on-1 drills and I went 11 times and only lost twice. So I thought that was pretty good. I went against Quay Evans four times and I got him the first two times and he got me the last two times."
And after his impressive 1-on-1 showings, Farmer said he caught the eye of the MSU coaches.
"Their coaches started asking me where I was from and who I was," said Farmer. "Coach John Hevesy and Coach Les Koenning said they liked me and told me to call them next week. Coach Hevesy was telling me about the recruiting process, too. He said to be patient and to not get discouraged if I don't hear from them right away. He said they had a lot of prospects to evlauate this summer and told me to just be patient and that was good to hear."
Naturally, Farmer said he was encouraged by the coaches' comments and MSU is a school that was already high on his list.
"Mississippi State is a school I would like to go to," said Farmer. "I liked them before I went to camp and now they know me and I felt I had a good showing."
Farmer said he is drawing interest from Mississippi State, Southern Miss, Auburn and Louisiana-Lafayette. He still has a couple of other camps in the near future and hopes to continue his impressive run.
"I am going to camp at Louisiana-Lafayette and then we have a camp at Perk (Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College)," Farmer said. "I have already been to Southern Miss' camp and it went good, too, and I got a lot of work in there, too. I have impressed myself a little bit so far but I have to keep it up this summer."
