Cowboys Fall In Border War

Senior guard Derrious Gilmore scored a career-high 26 points to lead the University of Wyoming men's basketball team, but the Cowboys fell 65-46 to the Colorado State Rams on Saturday in Moby Arena.

Gilmore knocked down a career-high six threes in the game and scored 20-plus points for the third time this season, as he kept the Cowboys (15-6, 2-6 MW) in the game in the second half scoring 16-straight points over seven minutes. The Rams (18-4, 5-2 MW) led from the opening tip and never gave up the lead to win its 26th-consecutive game at home.

"Once [Derrious] did knock in a couple, the way they were playing the ball screen, we felt like that would be our best look," UW head coach Larry Shyatt said. "We had wanted to go more so in to Leonard and Larry, but with that piece missing we thought that was the best way for us to get some shots."

Gilmore was the only Cowboy in double figures, but five other Pokes scored in the game. Senior forward Leonard Washington followed with nine points and four rebounds, while sophomore forward Derek Cooke Jr. pulled down a career-high 11 rebounds and added three points in a career-high 22 minutes.

Sophomore guard Jack Bentz scored the first conference points of his career adding two. Freshman Jason McManamen also scored the first conference points of his career hitting a three pointer in the first half and played a career-high 19 minutes.

The Cowboys will step out of conference on Wednesday for a trip to Bakersfield, Calif., to take on the CSU Bakersfield Road Runners. Tip time is set for 8 p.m. MT.
