The University of Wyoming Club Cowboys Baseball team clinched their first-ever trip to the World Series. In a three-game match against Denver University, the UW baseball club beat the Pioneers in all the games two weeks ago to clinch a trip to Huntingburg, IN and the NCBA Division II World Series.

Since moving into Division II of club baseball, the University of Wyoming has had an outstanding season. Coached by Aaron Lozano and Assistant Coach Frank Garcia, the Cowboys have run up a 10-1 record going into the World Series and finished the season third in their conference. Wyoming has 21 players this year (11 from the state of Wyoming), up from 12 players last year. Among the teams on the Cowboys' schedule this year were: Colorado College in Colorado Springs, Denver University, Fort Lewis College in Durango, Johnson and Whales out of Denver and Western State College out of Colorado.
"We come out to play and we expect to win; because we all love the game so much, each of the players are hard workers that practice hard because they love the game," said Frank Cifrese, president of the University of Wyoming Club baseball.
Wyoming qualified for the NCBA World Series thanks to a sweep over Denver University two weeks ago, winning 7-6, 13-2 and 11-10 in a series delayed by snow and played in Laramie. The third game the cowboys played on Sunday was a battle throughout the game. Wyoming took the win 11 to 10 in their final game of the season.
The next step is to start preparing for the trials ahead. The team could be facing off against New York University and Texas Galveston in the World Series at Huntingburg League Stadium in Huntingburg Indiana. The team will continue to practice as much as possible before they leave on May 14. The team will play multiple teams in a bracket tournament. The first team that they will play is Virginia Commonwealth.
With a trip to the World Series ahead of them, the Cowboys may be facing their toughest opponent yet – fundraising. As with all club sports the university, the baseball team has to pay to play. This means that not only do they need to pay for the equipment and even the umpires; they also have to pay for gas, food and lodging on their trips. And a trip to Indiana isn't expected to be cheap.
After securing their spot at the series on Sunday, the Cowboys discussed plans to raise money. The team plans to help with yard work for those who want the help. They will be fundraising for 10 dollars an hour per person, and are always happy for donations. If anyone is interested they can contact the Club Baseball Coach Aaron Lozano at 307-399-4287
