Wyoming Loses To Boise State 68-61

Senior guard Derrious Gilmore tied a career-high with 26 points and senior forward Leonard Washington added 18 points and 15 rebounds, but the University of Wyoming men's basketball team dropped a 68-61 Mountain West contest to Boise State on Saturday night in Taco Bell Arena.

The Pokes (16-7, 2-7 MW) trailed all game and fought back to single digits with less than two minutes left, but the Broncos (16-7, 4-5 MW) held on for the win.

"I thought the first 15 minutes of the first half the game was our tempo, but I made some poor decisions at the end of the first half that gave them some momentum," UW head coach Larry Shyatt said. "I admire these guys for fighting in the second half. The tempo was ours again and we gave ourselves a chance to win the game in the last two minutes, but we ran out of time."

Gilmore posted 26 for the second time in three games thanks to 10-of-18 from the field and 4-of-9 beyond the arc and added three assists. He has hit at least three threes in the last five games.

Washington notched his ninth double-double of the season while grabbing a career-high 15 rebounds and added three blocks to move into ninth on UW's single-season top 10 blocks list with 47 this season.

Freshman guard Josh Adams notched 13 points and a career-high four steals. Freshman guard Jason McManamen made his first career start in place of sophomore forward Larry Nance Jr., who sat with a wrist injury.

The Pokes shot 45 percent (22-of-48) from the field, but just 22 percent (5-of-22) beyond the arc, to 50 percent (27-of-54) for Boise State.

The Broncos hit 11 threes on Jan. 9 against Wyoming, but managed just 3-of-11 tonight. BSU earned a 33-28 advantage on the boards and 9-5 in assists.

After leading by 18 at halftime, Boise State kept the advantage in double digits the majority of the second half, until Wyoming fought its way back into the game late.

Washington posted 14 points and 11 rebounds in the second half, while Gilmore scored 11 of his 26 and Adams notched all of his 13 points in the second half.

Gilmore and Washington were the only Pokes to score in the first half, as Washington added four rebounds and sophomore forward Derek Cooke Jr. had five rebounds.

Wyoming shot just 36 percent (8-of-22) to 55 percent (15-of-27) for Boise State, as both squads made two threes. BSU outrebounded UW, 17-11, and committed just five turnovers to eight for the Cowboys.

Wyoming continues its season by hosting Nevada on Wednesday at 7 p.m. in the Arena-Auditorium.
